Plenty to See and Do in Rockport
The quaint fishing village of Rockport has been a favorite coastal hideaway for Texans since the 1880s when trains brought vacationing passengers from Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio to the sunny shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy a leisurely lifestyle with golf, fishing, and the sunny beaches.
Rockport Beach
Walk to the beach – it’s that close! Mile-long beach with beautiful views and lazy days for swimming, fishing, hiking, and biking. Disabled veterans get a free annual pass. Sorry, no dogs!
Goose Island State Park
Fish from the shore, your boat, or the 1,620-foot long fishing pier. Take photos of wildlife, especially birds. You are likely to see Whooping Cranes, Sandhill Cranes, and Roseate Spoonbills.
Texas Maritime Museum
See artifacts from the French shipwreck LaBelle, an outboard motor display, incredible shrimp boats, water color paintings of lighthouses, and learn about oil drilling, shipbuilding, and pirates. The maritime history of Texas is fascinating for the whole family.
Tule Creek Hike & Bike Trail
Smooth concrete path means easy hiking for the whole family right in the heart of town. The trail winds through Live Oak Forest where you’ll see ducks, deer, and herons from a little foot bridge. Wheelchair and stroller accessible. Dogs are OK!
Palmilla Beach Golf Club
Nearby Port Aransas is the home of an award-winning, oceanside public golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. The 12-hole course includes 9 holes of regulation play plus The Loop, a 3 hole short course that features native sand dunes and rolling green hills.
Rockport Center for the Arts
See the galleries, the gift shop, and the beautiful statues of whooping cranes and dolphins in the Sculpture Garden.
Rockport Skate Park
Located in Memorial Park – which also features scenic trails, a dog run, baseball diamond, soccer fields, and exercise stations – the Skate Park is fun for all ages, including your dog!
Fulton Mansion State Historic Site
Special shout-out to modern RVers – the lawn of this huge beautiful home built in 1874 was long used as an RV park! Go there!
